Description: |
Tapulous was founded on the belief that the iPhone and the App Store represent a huge shift in mobile connectivity and that the next big technology wave will be all about mobile. We were the first Company built in this new space. To date we have successfully attracted 15 million unique users to our portfolio of applications headed by Tap Tap Revenge, a music rhythm game that is present on 1 in every 3 iPhones and iPod touches and that was the top downloaded game on the entire platform. The company is headed by a team of seasoned entrepreneurs, Apple veterans and backed by a high profile network of angel investors including the first investors in Google, Vinod Khosla, Marc Benioff and Jeff Clavier. The Company is profitable with less than 20 employees and working hard to built the biggest musical-based social gaming network on the iPhone and other next generation mobile devices.
Tapulous is looking to hire a great Senior Gameplay Engineer to join our expanding team of rockstar iPhone developers. Tapulous has several exciting new projects in development, and we are hiring a Senior Gameplay Engineer to complement the existing team. You will take responsibility for architecting and improving our game engines to deliver a richer 3D experience in Tap Tap Revenge and other 3D games that are in development. You will work side-by-side with a team of seasoned engineers with a combined 25 years of experience at Apple. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products, both in terms of delivering a delightful user experience, as well as the professionalism of the code that builds that end-user experience.
You’ll be a big part of defining and implementing leading-edge new features and graphical capabilities, as well as improving the speed and responsiveness of the gameplay. You’ll enjoy significant leadership in identifying requirements and designing solutions, collaborating with the rest of the design and engineering team. You will be joining a fun, hardworking, and highly motivated engineering team that prides itself on a scrappy, can-do attitude. We enjoy working on big new products and features, but also take pleasure in polishing and fixing bugs in existing software.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Participating in our weekly process, loosely based on Scrum methodology, which includes setting goals, working towards completing them, keeping the team apprised of your progress, and showing off what you’ve accomplished at week’s end
- Prototyping new graphics techniques that become features in our games, both in 2D and 3D
- Working closely with artists to implement and improve in-game rendering
- Optimizing graphics performance to meet frame-rate goals
- Developing and implementing physics, lighting, and game logic algorithms and solutions
Requirements:
- Several years as a game programmer working with an advanced graphics engine for console or handheld (PSP, Nintendo DS) platforms
- Experience with OpenGL
- Fluent C/C++ skills
- Excited about working in a fast-moving, high-profile start-up. You’ll be writing code that will ship within weeks to millions of people. At times, this means there are less predictable work hours, and problems that require more inventiveness to make up for somewhat fewer resources. If you have Macgyver-like tendencies, we’ll put them to good use.
Nice to have:
- Designed and implemented a full-featured renderer for a published game title
- Very strong math and computer graphics background (physics, lighting, animation, shading, rendering, ray-tracing, rasterization, etc.)
- Some experience with Cocoa and Objective-C, ideally with the iPhone SDK, or other commercial Cocoa development
- Bachelors degree in CS/EE/Math/Physics
